Reporting to the Food Labelling Project Managers, the Project Assistant’s main responsibilities are to research the regulatory requirements pertaining to food labelling, communicate with food manufacturers to discuss technical data, perform database nutritional analyses, examine food labels and advise clients with respect to the regulatory, nutritional and linguistic aspects of food labelling. The Assistant Project Manager keeps track of time spent on the various projects and assists with invoicing.

 

Main Tasks

  • Review technical data and discuss it with manufacturers if necessary

  • Examine all label elements and verify their compliance with regulatory requirements

  • Research regulatory requirements

  • Report findings with detail (in French or in English, depending on the client), using appropriate wording, especially when terms are prescribed by regulation

  • Perform nutritional analyses, interpret results and highlight outstanding values, recommend appropriate formula changes and/or propose potential value-added label claims

  • Actively participate in ACC Label team meetings and contribute to business development

  • Prepare client invoices

  • Keep abreast of changes and trends in the food industry

  • Maintain good relations with co-workers, clientele, potential clientele and suppliers

 

Selection Criteria

  • Member of the Ordre professionnel des diététistes du Québec or of the Canadian Institute of Food Science and Technology, with a university degree in Nutrition or Food Science.

  • Proficient in French and English (oral and written)

  • Marked interest for work requiring keen observation skills and great attention to detail

  • Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (page layout, tables, automatic tables of contents, various keyboard shortcuts, formulas in Excel, task management with Outlook, etc.) and good typing skills

  • Strong interest for regulatory affairs

  • Good sense of priorities and good organizational skills

  • Experience in food labelling is an asset

 

Other Information

Commencement of employment is scheduled for April 2012. Training will be provided.
