We are often called upon by businesses throughout North America and Europe who wish to sell their products in Canada. They consult us for our\u00a0expertise in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>regulatory affairs related to food labelling<\/li>\n<li>nutritional analysis<\/li>\n<li>linguistic services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Collaboration with universities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Eurofins is proud to collaborate with <strong>McGill University.<\/strong> Since 2016, we offer 3-hour courses to first-year and second-year undergraduate students on the following subjects:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li>Database Nutritional Analysis &#8211; Methodology for Reliable Results (as part of Applications of Food Fundamentals, Nutr. 217)<\/li>\n<li>The Food Label, a tool to make informed food choices (as part of Applications of Food Fundamentals, Nutr. 217)<\/li>\n<li>Canadian Food Labelling &#8211; The Food Industry&#8217;s Obligations (as part of Food Service Systems Management, Nutr. 345)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In January 2022 and 2023, Eurofins also collaborates with <strong>Laval University<\/strong>, in their &#8220;<em>Integrated project in food product development&#8221;<\/em>, for undergraduate students in Food Science (STA-3120). In this course, students are asked to develop an innovative food product and present their project to various expert consultants, much like in the Dragon&#8217;s Den TV show. As a guest expert, Eurofins&#8217;s role is to bring the students to think about the subtle regulatory requirements to which their product is subject.<\/p>\n<p>The success of the first two collaborations with Laval University has set a trend likely to continue for several more years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other collaborations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Eurofins has often collaborated with organizations that support food companies from various countries in their plans to expand into Canada. For example, we have delivered lectures on various food labelling topics at the following events:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li>SIAL Toronto 2019: Food Export USA and Trade Facilitator Organization (TFO)<\/li>\n<li>SIAL Montreal 2018: Food Export USA, TFO Canada and the Embassy of Tunisia)<\/li>\n<li>INPACQ Day of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Quebec in 2018<\/li>\n<li>CIBIM (Carrefour des industries bioalimentaires de l&#8217;\u00cele de Montr\u00e9al), in 2017 and 2018<\/li>\n<li>Fancy Food Show in New York in 2015 (Food Export USA)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Media Exposure<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Eurofins is occasionally invited by different media to comment on labelling or nutritional analysis, such as:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li>the French counterpart of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation television show, <em>L&#8217;\u00c9picerie;<\/em><\/li>\n<li>La Presse Plus, the most comprehensive French-language news site in North America; and<\/li>\n<li>radio shows.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"dark_blue_title\">Eurofins helps forge Canada&#8217;s food labelling regulations<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>By actively participating in the various regulatory consultations, Eurofins is:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><strong>helping to shape Canadian food labelling regulations<\/strong>. We are very proud when our recommendations are included in the final regulations;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">always on the lookout for regulatory modifications before they come into force. We are always ready to advise our clients on their labelling obligations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We were ready to apply the new legal requirements:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-alpha;\">\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0 November 24, 2022, when Health Canada published the <strong>new reference amounts<\/strong> used to determine the serving size in the Nutrition Facts table;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0 October 20, 2022, when the <strong>new daily values<\/strong> for sodium and potassium were published by Health Canada;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0 July 20, 2022, when the <strong>requirements for supplemented foods<\/strong> and the <strong>mandatory front-of-package nutrition symbol<\/strong> for foods high in saturated fat, sugar or sodium have been published;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0 June 13, 2018, when the <strong>new Canadian Food Safety Regulations<\/strong> were published;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0 December 14, 2016, when Health Canada published its <strong>regulatory amendments to improve nutrition labelling<\/strong> and <strong>ingredient and allergen declaration<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0 February 4, 2011, when the final regulations for<strong> enhanced labelling of food allergen sources, gluten and added sulphites<\/strong> were published;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0 December 12, 2002, when <strong>nutrition labelling became mandatory<\/strong> in Canada.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><span class=\"dark_blue_title\">A product: an award<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In addition to its food labelling consulting services, Eurofins created a product, the MesurACC\u00ae, for which we received the <strong>SIAL 2016 Innovation Award<\/strong>. The MesurACC, a typographical tool designed to verify food labels with respect to the various typographical requirements of food labelling regulations, is an invaluable tool for anyone working in food labelling.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, the MesurACC\u00ae has considerably evolved.
